Valon tarinat - my new art project

May 13th, 2020

Today I finally decided upon the name of my works that I will eventually register as a small photography company. I chose "Valon tarinat", which in Finnish means the tales of light. In essence this is what photography is. The scientist in me says that light travels millions of kilometers to reach our planet. One needs to be in the right place at the right time in order to see light's interaction with subjects around it. This is where art is born. In the past 15 years I have had a camera in my hand. Maybe a phone, maybe my first DSLR Canon 1000D, or lately - 50+-year-old film cameras. I have been shooting on film for about two years now and I totally love it. It brings out my creative side and this is what led me to the idea of starting up a small fine art company to show (off) my work. It is planned to be a side job since I also have this strong passion for science and at the moment I am a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical chemistry at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Maybe I will be cheating on science by doing also art. Or then maybe not since they together make me who I am. I hope that this new challenge will be a successful endeavour and that I manage to show my work to the world.

The beginning

May 1st, 2020

It's a real cliche that everybody joins a web space, imagines getting many likes and comments, even sales. Well, the excitement is burning inside of me, too. I have been shooting for over 15 years now. Started with the basic VGA camera on my phone and reached the point where my photography gears takes up a respectable amount of space. I am the old-school//old's cool type. Vintage has a special place in my heart. I always keep my DSLR on manual mode and own only M42 lenses. Two of these lenses came with film bodies... tempting me to try something new. A couple of years ago I put black and white film for the first time in a Zenit and I fell in love with this medium. Then came a Spotmatic... Fast-forward, I ended up with an Iskra medium-format foldable. I haven't ever stopped taking photos but I had a more quiet time when I was not processing them or sharing them elsewhere. Well, now I decided that this has to change. Hopefully FAA/Pixels turns out to be a pleasant social experience. Thank you for your time!
